Hi, my name is Carla and I’m a chipaholic. Yeap! It’s very hard for me to resist a good crunchy snack, and when it comes to potato chips, Lay’s is where is at. Especially with all the crazy awesome flavors they keep releasing! Potato Chips make for the perfect easy snack to have handy to
not share with friends while enjoying a cocktail. So, for a limited time, you can add Crispy Taco, Fried Green Tomato, and Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese to your repertoire. Keep reading to learn about my night with Lay’s at the Refinery Rooftop in NYC, my thoughts on the new Lay’s flavors, and a cocktail recipe to pair with each of them. By the way, these are available in supermarkets now, and let me reiterate, for a limited time only. So run and get them like… yesterday!
I love me a good color party, and for Lay’s everyone wore their best yellow to go have a fun chip-infused dinner at the Refinery Rooftop. We were welcomed with three different cocktails to choose from that went with each of the new flavors. I started with the “Uno Más”, a mezcal twist to a Margarita, and we all know how much I love Margaritas, so I was already winning. The night went by trying our new Spectacles by SnapChat to record the night, mingling, and picking our favorite yellow accessory to take home and pose with on the photo booth. Pretty fun night for sure!
When dinner time came, we sat down at tables outside to enjoy the view of the Empire State Building and to sample the new Lay’s flavors alongside their real live food inspirations. Here are my thoughts on each and a cocktail recipe to pair them with.
Flavor Profile: This chip is weirdly like tasting an actual taco. Every bite I took I was in awe over and over again until I finished the bag I got to take home. My first impression is getting the flavor of a crunchy taco, the beef, and lettuce in it. If you like tacos and the idea that one day we’ll chew on a pill that nourishes us and tastes just like our favorite dishes, go try it!
Cocktail Pairing: The mezcal based “Uno Más“… or a Margarita!
A piece of Grilled Pineapple (No BBQ? Don’t grill it! You can even use crushed canned pineapple, too.)
1 oz. Simple Syrup (I like to use the one by Monin)
2 oz. Lime Juice
3 oz. Mezcal
Cilantro for garnish
Chili Salt to rim the glass
Peel and cut a pineapple and grill the pieces. Cut your wheels in squares so they are easier to work with. Prep your glass by wetting the rim with water or lime juice and dipping in chili salt. Muddle the grilled pineapple pieces with simple syrup in the bottom of your glass. Add mezcal and lime juice and stir. Top it off with crushed ice.
Fried Green Tomato
Flavor Profile: This one is so flavorful! I feel it tasted closer to the tasty sauce that comes with the fried green tomato and I’m not mad about it. All I wanted was to keep eating it dipped in that sauce. Yummers! This one was also le boyfriend’s favorite, just so you have another opinion.
Cocktail Pairing: The vodka based “Go Green“… or a Bloody Mary!
2 oz. Vodka
4 oz. Green Tomato Juice
Bell Pepper and Bacon for garnish
Add all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and pour into an ice-filled glass. Garnish with bell pepper and bacon strips.
Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese
Flavor Profile: This is the most basic of the three, however… I LOVE them! There are all these fun flavors you get in every bite and the chips are kettle cooked, so they are extra crunchy. I dipped them in cream cheese while binge watching one of my favorite shows. (This is a judgment free zone, right?)
Cocktail Pairing: The “Wake-Up Call”… or an Espresso Martini!
3 oz. Espresso
2 oz. Amaretto
1 oz. Cream or Milk
.5 oz. Simple Syrup
Everything Breadstick or Everything Bagel piece for garnish.
I was having too much fun and forgot to get images of all cocktails but hope that these, or my suggestions, inspire your Lay’s #DoUsAFlavor festivities. After trying the flavors be sure to go to the Lay’s website to learn more about them and vote for your favorite!
