I’m all about basic and classic pieces that’ll extend the life and versatility of your wardrobe. However, that being said, it is always good to get yourself a couple trendy, standout pieces to have fun with and mix and match with your more classic ones. On this outfit post, that piece would be the holographic skirt. Read on to learn how we met, danced and cocktailed the night away.
I got this skirt back in December when obsessed with the idea of getting a holographic piece to wear to a DJ’s show in NYC. The idea struck when I saw a bustier bra from afar at H&M that looked like a silver holographic dream. After that, I just NEEDED to have something holographic for that event. So, after a night of online research I saw that Forever 21 had this gem, and when I visited my nearest store I was lucky enough to snatch one of the last three standing. For the show, I styled it with a deep blue crop top and cosmic tights. I loved the look!
I styled it again for the #DineWithDerek event. (Find a recap and more pictures here!) On this occasion, I wanted a look that was less explosion of color and prints, and more cocktail hour appropriate amongst fashionable people. I let the skirt speak for itself by pairing it with black tights and v-neck shirt. Then, I brought out the fun colors that light brings out on this piece with my shoes and accessories. When it comes to holographic goodness you can have fun pairing it with all sorts of colors, specially pastels and brights. I went for bright blues on the earrings (a souvenir from my trip to Colorado last year) and the natural stone necklace (a souvenir while floating on some sea with my dad ages ago!), plus peach on the shoes.
What I love the most about this look is, of course, the fun skirt, that’s flattering and perfect to keep rocking into spring. Anything that nips at the waist will help you create that hourglass figure we are all after. The V-neck is sexy and helps elongate the top half of the body, and to wrap it all up, the accessories are simple but stand out with their fun colors and texture. Remember, simple doesn’t have to be boring… Colors, iridescence, sparkle, textures, and all that jazz can make a piece and outfit go from blah to bam!
