This weekend it’s Mother’s Day, making it the perfect time to make a cocktail and toast to that woman in your life who loved you, raised you, and inspired you to be a better version of yourself. A classic, like a Cosmopolitan cocktail, it’s a great addition to the celebration. Its color is very feminine, and it’s also pretty easy to make. Triple win! So, when your mother sees you pouring that perfectly made Cosmopolitan, she’ll feel very proud to see that you’ve come a long way from drinking Strawberry milk in a baby bottle. Keep reading to learn how to make this Cosmopolitan cocktail with a twist… I’d like to think it’s the perfect Mother’s Day cocktail!
The inspiration behind this cocktail is… you guessed it… my mother. She is not exactly the one to order a Cosmopolitan all the time, however she’ll order one once in a while. Recently, while I was enjoying a Saturday in the city with my friend Aminta (oh, she also has a fabulous blog you should check out!), drinking Margaritas and walking through Central Park, my mom was having a pretty eventful Saturday herself back home in Puerto Rico. She attended an event at a botanical garden, where she proceeded to order herself a Cosmopolitan, and in between sips, call me to inform me about it. You see, my mom and I are best friends, and that includes being drinking buddies. So, we like to share our cocktail adventures with each other.
Having that phone call as inspiration, I thought to share a Cosmopolitan recipe with all of you. However, this one is a Hibiscus Cosmopolitan! It’s sweeter and has a little bit more pizzazz, as it has an edible flower at the bottom. Wild Hibiscus had sent me a a jar of this edible Hibiscus flowers that you can also enjoy in Champagne a while back, and I thought they would go great in a Cosmopolitan. (Plus, they are a very tropical flower I grew up with right in my backyard back in Puerto Rico!) All you need to do is add the flower at the bottom of the martini glass before pouring, and substitute the Cranberry juice for equal parts Hibiscus syrup and water, and voila! Get ready to razzle-dazzle mom this Mother’s Day.
