I don’t know if you knew, but June is National Iced Tea month! It makes perfect sense, considering the summer is starting and with it the season of refreshing beverages including, of course, Iced Tea. When Blue Chair Bay Rum reached out to me to join their Blogtender Nation and create a cocktail inspired on this fact, I jumped right in. The idea of laying on the beach, sunshine on my face, and a refreshing cocktail in hand seems to be a recurring thought these days and perfecting a go-to summer cocktail seems like the perfect place to start. Blue Chair Bay Rum comes in several varieties… White, Coconut, Spiced Coconut, and their newest addition to the family, Banana. (To be honest, I’m not really excited about that last one. Why? Well, I’m one of those very special people that completely dislikes bananas. However, if you are like the other 97% of humanity make sure to try this new flavor.) I love rum, although no surprise their considering I’m originally an Island Girl, so picking my flavor to create an Iced Tea-inspired cocktail was no easy feat. Since the beginning of spring I’ve been gravitating towards Coconut rum creations like this ‘Lucky Leprechaun‘, so I thought it was the best route to go for me. (If only I had read properly, I would have gone for the Spiced Coconut. C’est la vie!)
It took me a while to come up with my creation. I literally stared at the bottle for days. The first thing I knew is that I was going to mix my Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum with Green Tea. I wanted to keep it light and refreshing, but it needed something more. The idea of a Pina Colada kept creeping up in my head, and after a failed attempt at creating a VERY blue cocktail that was a bit too sweet to digest properly; I gave in to my instincts. This Iced Tea Colada is perfect to enjoy in your backyard with friends or to prepare a batch in a pitcher to take to a pool party… or any summer party for that matter.
The people at Blue Chair Bay Rum are so cool that they even offered to give away a bottle for you to try this cocktail at home, or treat yourself to your favorite Coconut Rum cocktail. - 3oz. Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum
- 1.5 oz. Green Tea
- Splash Pineapple Soda
- Blue Sugar (optional)
- Mix Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum with the Green Tea in a shaker with ice.
- Shake and serve in a martini glass.
- Top it off with Pineapple soda.
- Feel free to decorate the martini glass beforehand with blue sugar. You do this by wetting the rim of the glass with water and dipping it in the sugar. You can also serve this cocktail in a regular glass with ice. You decide how you are going to enjoy it! Maybe frozen?
