What’s your shape? Are you short, tall, skinny, curvy, fit, voluptuous…? As we all know, catwalks are filled with extra thin models. In real life, however, we come in more sizes and shapes than that. Thanks to the media, retailers and personalities like Mad Men’s stunning Christina Hendricks women’s curves and sizes from 1-14 are being accepted and celebrated.
As the summer approaches, stores all over are stocking up on swimwear including fashionable and flattering pieces for plus size women. This season black and white bathing suits are all the rage. (You can check out some past picks of mine here.) Also, the one-piece swimsuit is making a big splash! This may seem a bit conservative, but it can be as daring and sexy as any string bikini out there.
Designer A.Z. Aruajo proved this in this past Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami. His collection showcased a white one-piece suit with daring straps that just oozed chic confidence (shown below). Of course, this bold style is not for everyone. Like a LBD is your go to dress for every occasion, the LBS (Little Black Swimsuit) should be in the swimwear collection of every woman. Black is a slimming color, and although curvy women shouldn’t restrict their wardrobe or swimwear to this color, it is a great way to hide certain insecurities. Combined with bright colors and summery prints, the LBS can help you achieve an eye-catching look that enhances your assets and fills you with confidence to conquer the beach this season.
