Let’s start with a little background on the Negroni cocktail. This now classic drink was first created at Bar Casoni in Florence, when Count Camillo Negroni ordered an Americano (sweet vermouth, Campari and club soda) with gin swapped in for the standard soda. You can enjoy this classic version at Davio’s, as well as other Negroni inspired creations with a modern twist. I went for ‘The Ladies Negroni’, ‘The Mexican’ and ‘The Fizzante’. We accompanied our cocktails with delicious Goat Cheese Puffs and a Prosciutto Pizza I still dream about.
The name of this concoction is perfect and pretty self explanatory as to what to expect. The Ladies Negroni is fun, sweet and the sugar-covered rim makes it a treat to have! This is the Italian equivalent of a Cosmo in your next outing with the girls a la ‘Sex and the City’.
The Mexican Negroni
Now this one is for the guys, or any ladies, who like me, sometimes prefer to enjoy a strong drink they can sip, enjoy and not make disappear in five minutes. This version of the Negroni uses Mezcal, so expect it to be, not only strong, but to have a smokey taste. What I loved the most about this cocktail was its amazing Orange scent as I took the first sip. (I love any cocktail that engages more senses than the expected!) My suggestion? Sip, enjoy and don’t let anyone take it away until you have enjoyed the very last watered down sip. This last sip will be as delicious as the scent you experienced on your first!
The Fizzante Negroni
Are you more into bubbly? This is the Negroni for you! The sweet citrus flavor and bubbles make it easy to drink and enjoy. I would even suggest to have it during brunch instead of your go-to Mimosa, or as the perfect sparkler to celebrate absolutely anything you have accomplished recently… even if that’s just you surviving the work week in one piece.
Curious to try one or all of these concoctions yourself? Head over to Davio’s Manhattan or pay them a visit at any of their other locations. Davio’s is a great restaurant to try this New York Restaurant Week or this Valentine’s Day weekend. Also, take advantage of their Monday-Friday Happy Hour from 2:30pm-7pm! (You’re welcome!)
