Vintage clothing… You are curious about it, you’ve been to a couple of stores, and maybe even treated yourself to a piece or two. However, you still wish you were more adept at finding vintage clothing that speaks to you and your modern closet. If this is you, and you also own or longingly wish to learn how to sew, this post (and gift!) is for you. The book ‘Born Again Vintage: 25 Ways to Deconstruct, Reinvent, and Recycle Your Wardrobe’ was recently sent to me to add to my fashion book collection. I love books, so I was really happy when I got it in the mail this past weekend. The book is mainly a collection of inspiration and ideas for you to take modern pieces and vintage clothing and make a one-of-a-kind garment with the two (hence the required sewing skills).
If you love crafts, this is the book for you! If you are like me… not too crafty, but love fashion, a good vintage find, and wish you would finally use your sewing machine… well, this is also the book for you! I really liked the idea of creating a t-shirt dress with a vintage dress that has a great print, but not so awesome bodice and a basic t-shirt. I also loved the idea of creating the perfect shorts for you with a silky skirt or slip. There are 25 of these ideas in the book, instructions, tips on how to score cheap vintage clothing, plus a list of vintage stores by state!
The co-author and designer, Bridgett Artise, has recently teamed up with New York and New Jersey independent fashion and accessories designers to create Born Again Vintage “The Collective” in Montclair, NJ. The newly opened boutique will focus on vintage clothing, recycled pieces and indie designers. Bridgett will carry her own line of recycled clothing, Born Again Vintage, along with brands like Clash and Lime, Lois Eastlund, and Vernakular, among others. They will also be offering seminars and workshops with designers from the collective to teach you how to create your very own recycled clothing.
The good news is that they’ve been so kind as to let me do a giveaway of one ‘Born Again Vintage: 25 Ways to Deconstruct, Reinvent + Recycle Your Wardrobe’ book to gift to a lucky Haute Cocktailista! All you have to do is enter below, and wish upon a shooting star to win it (optional). Also, if you are around New York or New Jersey make sure to visit the store at 219 Glenridge Avenue in Montclair, NJ. Now, enter and win!
